The newly appointed Minister for Civil Aviation, Wake Goi MP, has officially halted the appointment process for the Managing Director of the National Airports Corporation (NAC), citing the need for a thorough review of past decisions and governance issues.

In a letter addressed to Minister for Public Service. Joe Sungi MP, Minister Goi requested that all progress related to the appointment be suspended and not proceed to the National Executive Council (NEC).

The Minister emphasized that having only been in office for a short period, he requires adequate time to familiarize himself with the corporation’s legacy issues before moving forward with a permanent appointment.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) had already shortlisted three candidates for the role. However, Minister Gol stated that in line with the Marape-Rosso government’s commitment to good governance, fairness, and adherence to due process, he is determined to address any procedural and legal irregularities from past appointments.

To ensure continuity in leadership at NAC, Minister Gol has invoked Section 147AG of the Civil Aviation Act 2022 to appoint an Acting Managing Director.

This appointment will take effect on April 7, 2025, following the expiration of the current Acting Managing Director’s term on April 6. The position is expected to be advertised within three months for a substantive appointment.
