UOG PLANS PEACEFUL PROTEST, BOYCOTT CLASSES: PM TO RESPOND TO PETITION

IN a recent petitioned to the Prime Minister James Marape, students from the University of Goroka presented the petition highlighting six (6) points that are of national concern and have given seven (7) days ultimatum to the Prime Minister to respond.

The students have given a 7 days’ notice to respond to the petition, or they will have a peaceful protest within the campus including a boycott of classes.

The petition was received by the Minister for Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and Unggai Bena MP Feo Kinoka on Thursday last week at the campus in Goroka the school representative council (SRC) president Joshua Sua and student leaders on behalf of the student body petitioning the Prime Minister on national issues affecting the country.

The six (6) points raised in the petition are as follows:

  1. Revoke the Anti- terrorism Act for the liberty of citizens can be protected.
  2. VONC Amendments 145 of National constitution. Appeal to leaders to make decisions for God, citizens and country.
  3. Pauk Paraka case. PM to clarify to the country if he did sign the instrument or not. Clarify his involvement in the Paraka case.
  4. Reinentrate the Task force sweep team in PNG.
  5. Reserve foreign businesses for PNG citizens as it is a breech of the IPA Act.
  6. Quality Health Care plan for hospitals in the country. Prevent people dying from curable diseases.

The event was attendedby the University of Goroka top management team led by Vice Chancellor Dr Teng Waninga, PVC ARI Dr Mattew Landu among others and witnessed by the student body today outside the Mark Solon Auditorium (MSA) at the University of Goroka campus today.

Minister for DHERST and MP Feo Kinoka upon receiving the petition commended the students and the SRC for demonstrating an outstanding level of professionalism in the manner in which the petition was presented.

Mr Kinoka on behalf of the students assured that Prime Minister James Marape will personally respond to the students petition on the campus.

He said the petition will be delivered to the Prime Minister James Marape on behalf of the students and he will respond accordingly to the points raised in the petition.
