The Gerehu General Hospital in the National Capital District is now open to the public again.

The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) Acting Chief Executive Officer (A/CEO) Dr Robin Oge confirmed to FM100 newsroom this morning, that the Gerehu Hospital had reopened.

The hospital was forced to shut down service, as the recent heavy rains and flooding Port Moresby, had flooded out the health facility and also caused sewerage backflow.

Dr Oge reported earlier that the hospital staff and management, undertook a cleaning and decontamination of the hospital.

During that time, patients were redirected to other health facilities under the NCDPHA within the city.

For now, Dr Oge says the hospital board and management is working on more long term plans, improving drainage around the health facility, to prevent further flooding and backflow.
