NCD GOVERNOR LAUNCHES INDEPENDENCE FLOAT PARADE & CELEBRATIONS

The National Capital District has launched the 4 month long Pacific Stories series in the lead up to the country’s 50th independence anniversary in September.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop stated that this launch signifies a monumental step toward celebrating 50 years of shared experiences with not only within, with the 1000+ tribes and 800 languages, but also that with the international community.
Prime Minister James Marape when giving his remarks, acknowledged the country’s diplomatic partners and thanked them for the partnership over the years.
He urged the children of the country not to take their sovereignty for granted and 10 elections on, Papua New Guinea stands as a beacon of democracy, uniting 1000s of tribes and peoples together.
Speaking of the achievements of the country, the Prime Minister stated that PNG has come a long way since independence and must celebrate the diversity by finding strength and solace in differences.
He said PNG has many challenges but now the country must come together.
He stated that as the city celebrates today, the city must be the epicenter of this celebration.
