THE Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Elias Wohengu, is calling on all Papua New Guineans to pray for PNG diplomats and citizens currently in Israel who are now sheltering in bunkers as war breaks out between Israel and Iran.

PNG diplomats, including Ambassador Henry Mokono and his team in Jerusalem, have been told to stay in bunkers until it is safe.

Air travel into Israel and nearby countries has also been shut down.

Mr. Wohengu said he is in close contact with the PNG Embassy and is working to keep everyone safe.

He also asked churches, families, and communities across Papua New Guinea to pray for the safety of the PNG diplomats, citizens, and the people of Israel.

The Department of Foreign Affairs will keep the public informed and urges families with loved ones in Israel to stay calm and united in prayer.

On Friday morning, June 13, Israel launched a major military attack on Iran. The Israeli government said it was to stop a serious nuclear threat.

In response, Iran fired around 100 missiles back at Israel. Because of the danger, Israel has told everyone to stay indoors and close to safe places.
