BFPNG ANNOUNCES 3×3 WOMEN SQUAD FOR TRIALS IN AUSTRALIA

THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea this afternoon has officially announced the National Women’s 3×3 team selected for the upcoming preparation games in Gold Coast, Australia from the 23nd–27th of May.

President of BFPNG, David Peter said this trial matches in Australia will serve as key build-up fixtures ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 3×3 women selected for the high-performance training are Jackie Asiba, Lynette Tongia, Normalisa Dobunaba and Philomena Isei.

President Peter also announced the names of the coaches, Gavin Dela Cruz and one other coach who is yet to be named officially and the referee representing the PNG team, Betty Angula.

Peter clarified that the selection process involves nine selectors operating under a policy endorsed by BFPNG and the PNG Olympic Committee.

Under this policy, athletes were assessed by both the nine local selectors and international selectors based in Australia, through a rigorous evaluation.

However, the president stressed that this team list is not the final squad for the Commonwealth Games. The players are heading to trials, and if they perform well, they will be selected. If there are any issues, changes may be made to the lineup.
