COMMUNITY POLICING PROGRAM LAUNCHED FOR NINE MILE
THE newly established 9Mile Police Station, officially launched its Community Policing (COMPOL) program yesterday.
Community Policing is a core concept that the Commander for the National Capital District and Central Province, Assistant Commissioner Benjamin Turi has heavily emphasised on.
ACP Turi noted that this specific section of the police force will be actively moving through the community to raise awareness on policing matters.
He has mandated each police station within the command to establish these programs to engage with locals and fight crime within their respective areas of operation.
Turi says while other police divisions remain operational, the Community Policing team will work directly alongside school administrations, market management, and community leaders to conduct vital awareness campaigns.
Commander Turi extended his gratitude to the NCD Metropolitan Operations Superintendent, Chief Inspector Tobby Hamago, who officially launched the program yesterday, and will work closely with the team to enforce the initiatives prepared by the Officer-in-Charge of Community Policing at the Nine Mile Police Station.
Commander Turi also extended his encouragement to 45 identified volunteers assisting the police across the Nine Mile and Bomana areas to work ethically.
The volunteers will be issued uniforms and were reminded not to engage in unauthorized activities.
”I thank the volunteers for raising their hands to work with the police to ensure their respective areas are safe,” Commander Turi said. He added that the volunteers recognized today should wear their issued uniforms with pride.
Commander Turi also conveyed his sincere thanks to the corporate sponsors and community leaders for their support in donating T-shirts, a tent, and other logistical items to sustain the Community Policing team.
