CS COMMISSIONER DENIES POWER STRUGGLE OVER POLICE GUN PROBE

ACTING Correctional Service (CS) Commissioner Bernard Nepo has clarified that a recent police confrontation over alleged illegal firearms trafficking is not related to his fight for position.


The CS chief held a press conference today following social media speculation that police confronted CS officers last night while attempting to recover stolen M16 rifles.


Nepo dismissed claims that the CS officers that was held by police were rogue officers trying to smuggle guns. Instead, he clarified that that the officers were only trying to retrieved the stolen firearms.


He said he did not authorize anyone to move the weapons and confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway.
Nepo said this has nothing to do with internal power struggles, adding that he fully respects the upcoming decision of the Government garding the permanent Commissioner’s post.


He assured that the Correctional Service will support whoever is appointed by the government.
