CENSORSHIP OFFICE TO HOST MEDIA INFORMATION SESSION

THE Office of Censorship will host a media information session with media representatives to strengthen understanding of its mandated responsibilities and operations under the Censorship Act and National Policy.
The session scheduled for Thursday 9th July, aims to ensure accurate reporting and awareness of the role of the Office and the National Censorship Board.
Under the Theme” Clarifying the Roles and Functions of the Censorship and National Censorship Board” the Office expects the session to improve media understanding of censorship governance, strengthened stakeholder engagement, promote responsible dissemination of media content and support on going efforts on digital safety and responsibility.
Chief Censor Jim Abani said the information session reflects the office’s commitment to transparency, public awareness and constructive engagement with stakeholders.
Mr Abani said that communication platforms, social media, entertainment media and online content continue to expand, the Office recognizes the importance of ensuring that media organisation, stakeholders and the public have a clear understanding of censorship administration and regulatory processes in Papua New Guinea.
” I have noticed that many people including journalist, misunderstand the difference between the National Censorship Board and the Office of the Censorship, and this session provides an opportunity to clarify respective roles and address misconceptions and strengthen collaboration with the media and the wider community,” Mr Abani said.
Participants will include journalist and media representative from media organisations.
