SP BREWERY & NATURE CALLS PARTNERSHIP TURN GRAIN INTO FEED

SP Brewery has entered into a new partnership with Nature Calls Limited to repurpose spent grain from its brewing operations into locally produced stock feed.

Spent grain is a by-product of the beer brewing process, is rich in protein and fibre.

Under the initiative, the material will be collected from the Port Moresby brewery, sun-dried, palletised and processed into animal feed, helping reduce industrial waste while supporting livestock production in Papua New Guinea.

SP Brewery Corporate Affairs Manager John Nilkare said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and supporting locally owned businesses, noting it forms part of its long-term goal to achieve circular resource use across its value chain by 2030.

Meanwhile, Nature Calls Limited Director Raymond Unasi said the project builds on years of experience in waste management and feed formulation, adding that it will help address high feed costs and limited supply in the country.

The pilot project is expected to be expanded depending on its outcomes, with both partners highlighting its potential to improve food security and support sustainable agricultural growth in Papua New Guinea.
