ENB COMMUNITY HELD VIGIL IN HONOR OF 27 VICTIMS OF SEA TRAGEDY

THE beachfront at Ela Beach was filled with Kuanua choirs echoing songs on Sunday evening as members of the East New Britain community in Port Moresby gathered for a seaside vigil, to honor and pay tribute to the 27 passengers, families and loved ones lost in the July 18 tragedy between Duke of York and Kokopo.

Led by the George Brown Memorial United Church (GBMC), the vigil was filled with songs, prayers, moments of silence, and floral tributes set afloat on the ocean, symbolizing remembrance and solidarity.

GBMC Deputy Chairman Titus Kabiu thanked attendees for their support, while event organiser Hazel Schulz thanked everyone for thier support towards the event and urged continued prayers for possible survivors.

Chairman Kabiu also announced a commemoration service on August 16 to mark the arrival of the first missionary to Molot Island in the Duke of York Islands, the same islands where the recent tragedy occurred.

He invited all denomination and and members of New Guinea Islands to attend this service missionaries first landed in the New Britain provinces and New Ireland province and other parts of the region with the Good News of God.

Meanwhile, other provinces including Madang and Lae have also held similar vigils in in remembering the 27 victims.
