MINISTER NININGI: ROALAKONA’S APPOINTMENT MERIT‑BASED

ANY public misconceptions and rumours must be put to rest and should not be entertained, as Public Prosecutor’s Office is bigger than any organisation and any particular individuals, spreading false claims and information to steer public opinion and ill will.

This was from the Minister of Justice & Attorney General Pila Niningi, reaffirming his stand on appointing only first female lawyer Helen Roalakona to the post of Public Prosecutor for a term of 6-years.

Minister Niningi reaffirmed that Helen Roalakona’s appointment was based on merit and her strong performance after appointing her as the acting Public Prosecutor last year.

Minister Niningi called the legal fraternity including others to support her and urged the public not to spread untrue and misinformation about her appointment.

Minister Niningi also called on the judiciary to support the recently confirmed judges in Kenneth Imako and Peter Kaman, including Magistrates Joel Nime, Walter Malio, Suzuanne Unumba, Grace Norum, Samson Tatakali, Luke Keria, Siva Kima, Cicila Pulapula, Barbara Deruage and Deslyn Sinu.

Minister of Justice & Attorney General Pila Niningi has called on the public to support the appointment and urged the judiciary and legal fraternity to offer their support as well.

Niningi who is also the chairman of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLCS) added that judges Justice Imako and Kuman will serve for the next 10-years while the magistrates are to serve for 12-months, with their terms depends on the performances at the District Courts.
