SIMBU GOVT, NCC PARTNER TO BOOST CULTURE & TOURISM

FOR the first time in its history, Simbu Province signed a provincial-level agreement with the National Cultural Commission (NCC) on Thursday 20th August in Port Moresby.

While six local groups were previously affiliated with the NCC, this new partnership unites the entire province under one cultural development framework.
Simbu Governor, Noah Kool welcomed the partnership, describing the event as a historic milestone for his people.

“It is historic; it has never been done before. This partnership will reflect a shared commitment to protecting, preserving, and promoting our diverse culture and the heritage of our people.” Governor Kool stated.

Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Belden Namah, announced a direct funding of K500,000 to bolster the provincial cultural show.

Minister Namah said that the ministry will work very closely with the province to turn local festivities into a major national event.

Beyond the immediate funding for the festival, Minister Namah highlighted the critical need for long-term regional infrastructure.

He advised the Simbu Governor to look at establishing a dedicated office and hub for archiving local art, heritage, and customs, alongside a Provincial Tourism Board to strategically market Simbu’s unique tourism products to domestic and international visitors.

The partnership establishes active cooperation between national and provincial authorities to research, document, and showcase Simbu’s arts, culture and heritage but also paves way for economic opportunities for local communities.
