DISTRICTS TO RECEIVE K2.5 MILLION EACH FOR EL NIÑO RELIEF NEXT MONDAY

EVERY district in Papua New Guinea will receive K2.5 million next Monday as part of a major government funding package to help communities affected by the El Niño weather crisis.

Prime Minister James Marape announced the immediate aid plan to ensure quick support reaches frontline areas through local authorities.

The Prime Minister says the funding plan distributes money to both local communities and regional managers.

He added that the District Development Authorities must meet right away to organize and give out help based on what their people need.

Prime Mister Marape said each provincial government, including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, will also get K2.5 million to manage and watch over the work.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Centre will get K5 million to monitor and coordinate the overall response across the nation.

Prime Minister Marape said that this is only the first part of the financial support, another K2.5 million will be given out later after districts and provinces send in reports showing how they used the first funds and what else they need.
