NEW POGERA LIMITED PARTICIPATES IN MINE CLOSURE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

THREE members of New Pogera Limited’s Sustainability Team recently took part in the two days 2026 International Conference on Mine Closure in Melbourne, Australia which started on September 15 and concluded on September 17, 2026.

Superintendent of the Reclamations and Closure Planning of the Environment Department Mr Bernard Ray and Advisor Ms Samantha Alphonse represented NPL at the conference, alongside Lloyd Kila from the Mine Planning team.

Superintendent Mr Bernard Ray highlighted that mine closure planning looks beyond the end of mining as it considers how land and the environment can be rehabilitated, as well as future land use and the needs of communities

“The international conference brought together industry leaders, researchers, regulators and mining professionals to share knowledge and experiences on mine closure, rehabilitation and sustainable land management,” Mr Ray said.

He mentioned that for the NPL team, it was an opportunity to learn about different approaches to closure planning, progressive rehabilitation, stakeholder engagement and post-mining land use, as well as hear about practical experiences and case studies from other mining operations around the world.

Advisor Ms Samantha Alphonse said that the team from NPL also connected with professionals working in mine closure and rehabilitation, exchanging ideas that can contribute to NPL’s ongoing reclamation and closure planning work at Porgera.
