LOCALS IN AITAPE CALL FOR CLARITY ON MASSIVE FOG COVER

By BENBERT WASA, in Aitape

WITH the recent El Nino phenomenon at hand, for the first time, in Aitape, West Sepik province, mist and fog appeared everywhere covering beach front, over the sea and the outer islands.

People mistook it for normal hazy smoke from bushfires when it first appeared last weekend and continued through the week.

Many expressed it is strange because this has never happened before.

“Fog can not be seen right down to the beach front and over the sea to the islands,” locals expressed.

Earlier this week, in the morning part of the day, thick fog has been experienced covering the ocean and the islands. The roads are also covered by fog posing traffic risks in the mornings.

This strange change in weather pattern along the coastlines of Aitape demands disaster awareness from Authorities to keep people informed of the changes and how it may affected them.

Currently the dry weather is continuing and it is unpredictable when it will change and the strange fog can now be seen everywhere in the night until morning.

People must be safety cautious when traveling the roads and seas especially in the morning when most areas are cover by fog.
