CAPTION: Vessel carrying North Fly Relief Supplies in Daru
By KENNY ROMANUS, in Western Province
THE first vessel transporting El Nino relief supplies for North Fly District arrived in Daru, South Fly District, at 9am this morning before offloading other cargo ahead of its onward journey to Aiambak in Middle Fly District.
The vessel was scheduled to depart Daru for Aiambak at 5pm this afternoon, pending confirmation, with arrival expected over the weekend or early next week.
However, the departure and arrival schedules may change depending on unforeseen circumstances.
The vessel is carrying 120 tonnes of El Nino relief supplies destined for communities affected by the prolonged dry conditions in North Fly District.
Upon reaching Aiambak, the supplies will be offloaded and transported by road to Kiunga, where they will be prepared for distribution to affected communities across the district.
Meanwhile, a second vessel carrying a further 120 tonnes of relief supplies departed Port Moresby yesterday and is also heading to Aiambak.
The two shipments form part of the ongoing efforts to deliver essential food supplies to communities affected by the prolonged El Nino dry spell in North Fly District.
