SIR THEO FOUNDATION DONATES K150,000 TO BBP NUTRITION PROGRAM

BY JORDON VELA

THE Sir Theo Foundation has donated K150,000 to Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) to support its Nutrition Education Program in Port Moresby, with training planned for teachers, educators and community members.

The cheque was presented Today Oct. 28 at the Buk bilong Pikinini centre at Six Mile by Foundation Chairman George Constantinou and Founder and Vice Chair Anne-Sophia Hermann to BbP Executive Officer Leanne Resson.

The funding will support a three day nutrition education workshop in Pari village and at Tutu Beach in Taurama. The first two days will train 20 teachers and educators at each location to deliver the program, while the third day will be open to the public.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of child nutrition and address malnutrition, including chronic malnutrition, which affects children’s health, development and ability to concentrate in class.

BbP introduced its Nutrition Education Program in 2025 across 15 of its library learning centres, including 10 in Port Moresby and one each in Goroka and Manus.

Ms. Resson said education was essential to children’s overall development and that nutrition was an important part of learning and reaching their full potential.

“Education is a fundamental pillar of a child’s holistic development and growth, enabling children to learn and reach their full potential. It is not just about reading and writing. Nutrition is also important.

“At Buk bilong Pikinini, we have integrated a nutrition education program into our existing programs. We believe it is important to extend our training resources, nutrition education resources and, more importantly, the parent awareness sessions that we deliver across our wider programs,” she said.

Mr. Constantinou said the foundation was proud to contribute K150,000 to support the program over the coming months.
