THE National Energy Authority (NEA) has launched its two-day Regional Roadshow and Regulatory Awareness Program in Port Moresby, bringing together key stakeholders from government agencies, industry and the energy sector under the theme” Strengthening Governance, Technical Standards and Technical Compliance for a Safe and Sustainable Energy sector in Papua New Guinea”

Opening the event at APEC Haus, NEA highlighted the importance of strengthening technical compliance, regulatory enforcement and safety standards across the country’s energy sector.

On behalf of the NEA Chairman Ray Paul a NEA staff made the opening remarks saying NEA is committed to building a safer, more reliable and sustainable energy sector for Papua New Guinea.

Through stronger governance, strict technical standards and effective regulatory enforcement, NEA aims to protect lives, safeguard our national power infrastructure and ensure that every electrical product and service meets the required safety and compliance standards. This is not just about regulation; it is about creating a resilient energy sector that supports investment, drives economic growth and improves the lives of our people.

The roadshow forms part of the implementation of the National Energy Policy 2017-2027 and aims to address issues such as non-compliant electrical products, uncertified electrical work and energy safety risks.

Over the two days, participants attended presentations on licensing, regulatory compliance, electrical safety standards, equipment certification, inspections and border control measures against counterfeit electrical products. Industry experts, regulators and stakeholders also shared perspectives on technical skills development, renewable energy integration and consumer safety.

The event also featured a question-and-answer session and a number of informative booths set up by participating organisations, providing attendees with information on energy regulations, standards, licensing requirements, safety practices and available services. Visitors had the opportunity to engage directly with experts and learn more about compliance requirements within the energy sector.

NEA says collaboration among regulators, industry and consumers is critical to ensuring affordable, reliable and sustainable energy access while supporting national development and community prosperity
