NCDC CUSTODIANS PETITIONED DELAY IN MOTU-KOITA ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS

THE custodians of the National Capital District Commission, the Motu Koitabu people petitioned the national government to address the issue of the Motu Koita Assembly elections which has been postponed for the last two years.
Joined by the Member for the North West, Lohia Boe Samuel, the intending candidates for the delayed Motu Koita Assembly elections and the community aired their grievances on the delayed Motu Koita Assembly Elections which was supposed to take place in 2023. However has been delayed for the last 2 years, for reasons unknown.
Referencing the Motu Koita Assembly Act 2007, the member for North West Lohia Boe Samuel said the elections were supposed to take place in 2023 however were delayed for reasons unknown to him and the whole Motu Koitabu community.
He said as per the Motu Koita Assembly Act(2007), elections of the new chairman of the assembly should take place every 5 years, however the wrists have expired on the October 2023, and the current chairman of the Assembly, Daki Toka Jnr is occupying office illegally.
He said it has been 2 years, and the Electoral Commission has not made any attempt to issues writs of the Motu Koitabu elections.
Meanwhile intending candidate for Motu Koitabu elections Fred Oala clarified that yesterday’s meeting was not a protest, but rather a petition for the National government to address the issue.
He adds that they will be presenting a black and white petition to the Governor of the NCDC, Hon Powes Parkop and to the Electoral Commission for the immediate elections for the Motu Koita Assembly to be held in April, this year.
The custodians of the national capital district has called for the Motu Koitabu Assembly Chairman, Dadi Toka Jnr to step down and for the current Motu Koitabu Assembly to be dissolved as they are occupying the office illegally.
The Governor for NCD, Hon Powes Parkop was visibility present at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium this afternoon to receive the petition of the custodians.
