MWB OUTLINES IMPORTANCE OF REVIEW

By Nigel MADO
Following the first consultative meet with employers & employees in the Nation’s capital & Central Province, the Minimum Wage Board, chaired by Beverly Doiwa is looking to continue in the wider reaches of the country and has highlighted the importance of the MWB Consultations.
She said so much has come out late last year, and commended the team for putting out a publication on this very important exercise.
“It has not been really made public knowledge. It’s not public knowledge. But these are some of the things that are in law that says that we can set minimum wage.
But before we do that, we must hear from you. You must tell us. We cannot know unless you tell us,” She said.
She said another thing that is very important now to let the public know is that the Industrial Relations Act empowers this board, establishes this board, and it’s appointed by government.
The board has representatives, equal representation from the employers, from the union. Then it is also open to the community and to the churches. She urged the public to turn up.
