TPA AND SEZA PARTNER TO PROGRESS EAST NEW BRITAIN TOURISM SEZ

THE Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) and the Special Economic Zone Authority (SEZA) signed a partnership agreement this morning to transform East New Britain into a Tourism Special Economic Zone.
The agreement was inked by TPA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Eric Mossman Uvovo and SEZA CEO, Kikila Yavase at the TPA office in Port Moresby.
In his remarks, TPA CEO Eric Mossman Uvovo said this strategic initiative aligns with the government’s vision to stimulate economic growth by developing SEZ in various sectors including Tourism.
Uvovo said the agreement establishes a joint task force responsible for creating regulatory frameworks and meeting all legal guidelines to for the establishment of the SEZ.
He said East New Britain was targeted because it was renowned among tourist for its volcanic landscapes, rich cultural heritage, World War II history, and marine life.
SEZA CEO, Kikila Yavase clarified that this agreement does not mean East New Britain has been given a license as Special Economic Zone, but paves way for it to be established as one.
He noted that significant work remains ahead as both authorities collaborate through the task force and with provincial governments and stakeholders to complete the development project.
