The Manus Provincial Governor’s Cup officially kicked off on earlier this week, on Monday, 3rd of March, which saw the participation of 72 football clubs taking part in this prestigious tournament.

This two-week soccer tournament is sponsored by the Manus Provincial Governor, Charlie Benjamin and fully supported by the Manus Provincial Administration.

In his remarks, the Provincial Administrator for Manus, Mr Mame Kasalau stated that this is not just a sporting event; it is a celebration of our provinces’ passion for soccer.

“It is also a testament to our shared vision for a brighter, more vibrant future for our youth through this beloved sport” Mr Kasalau said

Mr Kasalau shared the same sentiments with Governor Hon Charlie Benjamin: and extended his gratitude to the governor for his unwavering commitment to support Manus soccer for the next five years.

“This initiative is not merely a promise; it is a clarion call to action, a rallying point for all stakeholders, and an opportunity for us to collectively invest in the development of our young athletes, our communities, and our province” Mr Kasalau said.

He reiterated that the province already has a Provincial flag team, the Admiralty Islands Football Club, participating in the National Soccer League, a player managing to find space in the National Team and another handful being scouted for the PNG Youth Team.

“These were our successes last year and together, we can create a solid framework to support our athletes, ensuring they have the guidance and opportunities necessary to excel on the field.” he adds

The Manus Provincial Administrator stressed on the need to build more partnership together paving way for the Manus Soccer Association as the Provincial Body for Football to be pivotal in driving this mission forward.
