THE Teaching Service Commission (TSC) of Papua New Guinea has officially sworn in 17 new council members to its committee today at the Gateway Hotel in Port Moresby.
TSC Chairman and Commissioner, Mr. Samson Wangihomie in his address, noted that there had been no council members since 2012, citing that due to unpaid allowances, the members left.
Among the 17 newly sworn council members, five are women, reflecting a commitment to gender representation.
The swearing-in ceremony began with the chairman himself, Mr. Wangihomie, who led the oath-taking process.
The council is made up of four members representing the Department of Education, seven represent church-run educational institutions, four are from the PNG Teachers Association (PNGTA), each representing one of the four regions of the country, and two are representatives from the TSC.
The council members pledged to uphold their duties and serve the teachers on the ground, demonstrating their commitment to the education sector.
TSC Commissioner of Operations Mike Maina Ugaia addressed the new council members stating that the TSC council is one of the mandated bodies under the TSC Act that is responsible for making critical decisions that impact teachers across the country.
