NCDC BOARD WELCOMES DEPUTY GOVERNOR AND DEPUTY CHAIRMAN

NEWLY Elected Chairman of Motu Koita Assembly, Hon. Russell Simon Wavik was officially sworn into the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) Board today (Monday 18th August, 2025) as the Deputy Governor and Deputy Chairman of the NCDC Board at the City Hall, in Port Moresby.
The swearing-in ceremony was facilitated by Boroko District Court Magistrate Garry Unjo, witnessed by Commissioners of the NCDC Board, led by the NCDC Governor Hon Powes Parkop, Member for Moresby Northwest, Hon Lohia Boie Samuel, Member for Moresby Northeast, Hon John Kaupa, Member for Moresby South, Hon Justin Tkachenko, City Manager Mr Ravu Frank including the newly elected members of the Motu-Koita Assembly.
NCDC Governor Powes Parkop, said today marks a special occasion for the country as the two separate governments of the capital city, the MTK assembly and the NCDC come together in partnership.
“MTK assembly and the NCDC are two separate organizations but the government of today in his wisdom has merged the two organisations; that the chairman of the Motu Koita Assembly resumes the role of the deputy Governor and deputy chairman of the NCDC board” Governor Parkop explained.
Governor Parkop adds that this is the fourth MTK assembly and he urged the newly appointed councillors and the two women’s representatives to work together with the NCDC board to come up with solutions to recurring problems that continue to hinder progress of the nation’s capital.
In his remarks, the new NCDC Deputy Governor and Deputy Chairman humbly thanked the people of Motu Koitabu for having trust in him and electing him as Chairman of the MTK assembly.
“I am here on a mission to represent Motu Koita Assembly and its people who are landowners of this city” Mr Wavik said.
He also thanked the NCDC Governor, Hon Powes Parkop for championing change since he took office and promises to work with him going into the future.
