CONTRACT SIGNED FOR MAINTENANCE OF POMIO AND MAPRIK AIRSTRIPS

THE people of Pomio and Wewak will now have better access to aviation services, with the National Airports Corporation rolling out it’s Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP) 2.
The Hayfield Airstrip in Maprik, East Sepik Province and the Jacquinot Bay Airstrip in Pomio of East New Britain are the two pilot projects of of the 4 rural airstrips listed for improvement under the CADIP 2 by the NAC through the department of Transport.
After carefully assesment of the bidding applications, the Contract for Hayfield was awarded a Chinese contractor, China Shengyang International Economic and Technical Cooperation Corporation (CSYIC-SIL JV) at the value of over 9 million kina.
Meanwhile the contract for Jacquinot valued at over 9 million was awarded to Niugini Engineering and Procurement Services (NEPS)
The contract covers works in runway upgrades, bitumen sealing, construction of new terminal building and carpark and the refurbishment of existing facilities and other associated works.
Minster for Civil Aviation congratulated NAC, the two districts and the contractors and urged them to fast track the work and get them done so they can look at other airstrips in the country.
The member for Pomio and Health Minister, Elias Kapavore and Maprik MP, Libert Kapris were present at the occassion.
