THE Alesco Payroll system has been decentralised to all provinces allowing teachers in the provinces nationwide to transfer information from resumption forms and feed direct to the system.

This is the new concept introduced to teachers to use especially at this time of the year when teachers resume for the 2026 academic year.

Education Department Secretary Dr Uke Kombra said, previously all resumption forms from provinces are sent into Port Moresby to to be entered into the alesco payroll system however this has changed since last year.

He says, teachers in all provinces are doing inputting of resumption forms themselves, except for Gulf and Southern highlands through the Alesco system. This is a way forward for the department to complete the process quickly.

The Education Secretary also mentioned that the department will also pilot and trial out the conversion of manual system into electronic version, a project the department started last year and will continue this year with NCDC to pilot the project.

He says this year parallel trial with NCDC, where teachers will complete their resumptions online, and no longer on paper. This is also to fast track the resumption process. NCDC will pilot the Electronic Resumtion of Duty Summary Sheets this year.

Secretary Kombra emphasise that in the future the department believes should have a more efficient system.

Meantime, a team led by First Assistant Secretary will be monitoring and supporting the schools in their resumption of duty and will be coordinating all the standard officers or inspectors nationwide, together with the provincial Officers, TSC Officers, Guidance Officers to ensure the year starts well.
