BOROKO PUMA STATION RATIONS FUEL AMID POM FUEL SHORTAGE

BY LETHISA KOLOKOL
THE Boroko Puma Energy service station expects a full delivery of fuel today, to end the temporary shortages that caused panic buying and major traffic jams across Port Moresby yesterday.
Normal operations will resume as soon as the delivery tankers finish refilling the station’s pumps.
Yesterday evening, the station ran critically low on fuel and was forced to ration its remaining supply.
Boroko Puma Energy Service Station Manager, Gini Gaya, says the station restricted sales exclusively to Puma card and fuel card holders, reserving 200 liters for these account customers to manage the shortage.
He said cash-paying customers were temporarily turned away, which triggered a rush of motorists to other stations and caused heavy traffic congestion throughout the capital.
Despite all this, fuel prices at the pump have remained completely stable with Petrol selling at K4.39 per litre and diesel is at K4.44 per litre.
Meanwhile the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) has not yet announced any official price adjustments, while authorities are urging motorists to remain patient while the city’s stations are being replenished today.
