Ms KETAN’S PASSING, A LOSS TO THE MEDIA INDUSTRY

The Media Council of Papua New Guinea (MCPNG) is mourning the passing of Ms. Genesis Ketan, a journalist, MCPNG treasurer, trainer, friend, and colleague.
PNG Media Council President Mr Neville Choi has described Late Genesis Ketan as a very vital member of the Media Council Executive, in her capacity as the treasurer and an inspiration to the upcoming journalist in the industry.
President Choi says, Late Genesis passing is a big loss to the industry, her forthright attitude impacted the lives of many young media friends and colleagues, not only in PNG but across the Pacific.
Ms. Ketan passed away on June 7, 2026, after a long and hard-fought battle with Rheumatic Heart Disease and Mitral Valve Stenosis.
While many knew Ms. Ketan as a friend, colleague, and mentor, to the Media Council, she was a champion of resilience and hope.
In a statement, the Media Council shared her story, underlining her passion for helping young journalists and her commitment to elevating the standards of journalism in the country.
The council extends its deepest condolences to Ms. Ketan’s husband, her beautiful young family, her extended family, and her tribe.
Media Council of Papua New Guinea, media representatives from various media organisation convened at Late Genesis Ketan’s home at Kenedy Estate on Saturday, to show their respect and paid tribute to one of their own, before she journeys home to rest.
