THE Goroka Bintangor Lahanis strengthened their push for a top-six finish with a hard-fought 24-16 victory over the Gas Resource Central Dabaris in Round 10 of the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup at the National Sports Institute in Goroka yesterday.
The match carried significant ladder implications, with both sides entering the contest on nine competition points and separated by just one position on the standings.
The Lahanis took control early, with winger John Gore opening the scoring 10 minutes into the first half before centre Ismael Peter added a second try in the 35th minute.
The Dabaris fought back after the break through halfback Steven Tai, whose converted try narrowed the margin to 12-6.
However, the Lahanis responded strongly, with Ismael Peter completing a double before prop Manu Sent crossed for another try. Gaise maintained a perfect kicking record to extend the lead to 24-6.
The visitors mounted a late challenge through second-rower Valentine Wamdi and fullback Nathan Kora, but an unsuccessful conversion attempt left the Dabaris short of a comeback.
The victory sees the Goroka Bintangor Lahanis secure a valuable 24-16 win on home soil and strengthen their position in the race for a place in the finals.
Lahanis centre Sefa Dait was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
