“I had read and watched news throughout the country where vehicles had been involved in accidents that had taken away lives of people and had also damaged vehicles and other properties. That confirms the reports of drivers not respecting other road users. There are traffic laws in place which police are dealing with such drivers. I want to warn drivers, vehicle owners in NIP that police will be out for their festive season operation and one of their operation tasking will be arresting drivers who are not respecting others and are committing traffic offences”, Chief Supt Beli said.
PPC Beli further added that New Ireland is peaceful province and many people will want to visit the province during their holidays which the people in the province who owns vehicles must make it their business to respect those who are in their province and are using the road. He said this will help them and those who visit the province.
He further added that when picking up or dropping up passengers the drivers must do it at designated bus stops or if they are travelling along the highway they must find a place that won’t obstruct other vehicles who are using the road. He said this must also apply to the passengers to be at the right place so it won’t cause any inconveniences for drivers.
