WORK ON GURNEY AIRPORT RUNWAY TO COMMENCE SOON
THE National Airports Corporation (NAC) has advised the travelling public, airline operators and key stakeholders that works on the airside of the Gurney Airport in Milne Bay province.
This transformation project is part of the airport upgrade works under the Civil Aviation Development Investment Project II(CADIP II).
According to NAC Acting CEO and Managing Director Dominic Kaumu, the project would include the resurfacing of the existing runway with hot mixed asphalt and upgrading of associated facilities to meet international safety and operational standards.
Mr Kaumu said work is expected to commence in January 2025 and will run through to July.
He says, NAC acknowledges that these adjustments may pose inconvenience however this is necessary to ensure timely and successful delivery of a safer and more efficient airport for the region.
Mr Kaumu gave assurance that works will be undertaken in a manner and timing where regular passenger transport servicers in and out of Gurney minimally affected.
He further emphasized that the benefits of these upgrades will be felt for years to come enabling Gurney Airport to serve as a critical gateway for economic growth, tourism and improved connectivity for the people of Milne Bay province.
