“PROVINCE-WIDE MANHUNT” FOR POLICE MURDER SUSPECT IN HELA

HELA Governor Philip Undialu today announced a “Province-wide Manhunt” to apprehend Tasi Parobi, the individual responsible for the tragic murder of Tari Policeman, the late George Lapo.

In a statement today, the Governor called upon all law-abiding and peace-loving citizens of Hela to assist in identifying the suspect and to either help bring him to justice or encourage him to surrender.

It is crucial to stress that the people of Hela should not be held accountable for this tragic event; rather, it is the responsibility of one individual, who must be held accountable for his actions.

Governor Undialu expressed concerns that properties are being destroyed by security forces in the wake of this incident, and roadblocks have been staged at Poroma, SHP, by relatives of the late Lapo.

“Hela cannot be held ransom for the actions of one individual who has taken the law into his own hands. He must be brought to justice,” stated Governor Undialu.

The Governor commended the leadership of Tari Town community leaders, particularly John Tipa, in collaboration with Hela PPC Robin Bore, for initiating a province-wide manhunt.

The suspect has released a video confirming his involvement in the murder and has pledged to surrender.

However, nearly two weeks have passed without him presenting himself. This delay has prompted the initiation of the manhunt.

Meantime, Hela PPC Robin Bore and John Tipa yesterday in front of pack crowd in Tari town announced that those who choose to harbor him will face legal consequences.

Hela PPC Robin Bore has identified six individuals involved in aiding his evasion, and these individuals will be arrested at the first opportunity.

“This individual has inflicted irreparable damage on Hela by taking the life of a dedicated policeman, and he does not deserve the support of anyone.

By now, he should be behind bars. It is alarming that some individuals have the audacity to assist him in hiding. They too are equally responsible and will face consequences”, emphasized Governor Undialu.

Additionally, Governor Undialu has urged leaders in Southern Highlands to provide leadership and ensure that no roadblocks are established, as they adversely affect not only the people of Hela but also the operations of the PNGLNG project in Kutubu, Moran, Hides, and Angore.

The PNGLNG project contributes between K4 billion to K7 billion annually to the nation and pays development levies, royalties, and equity to the five impacted provinces, including Hela and SHP.

Therefore, it is important that leaders on both sides work together to restore peace and normalcy.
