KAVIENG RECEIVES SIR J’s CASKET

THE casket of Rt. Honourable Grand Chief Sir Julius Chan arrives in Kavieng, from his beloved home in Manmantinut, Huris.

Provincial Administration, public servants, students, police, CS and members of the general public gathered to pay their respect to the last man standing.

His casket is currently laid at the New Ireland Provincial Government office for the administration to pay their respect and later will be flown to Port Moresby in the evening.

Today marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for New Ireland and Papua New Guinea going forward.

The province of New Ireland came to came to standstill this morning as all shops in Kavieng closed for the day in the wake of the death of their great son, Rt Hon Sir Julius Chan.

Acting Governor Sammy Missies released a formal circular yesterday declaring today a public holiday for all schools, business houses, national agencies and churches following the announcement by Prime Minister James Marape declaring a week of National Mourning.


His name rings in every New Ireland home as we mourn. Imprints of today’s events will go down in the country’s history beyond this lifetime.
