PRIME MINISTER PAYS TRIBUTE TO LATE SIR JULIUS

THE Prime Minister, James Marape paid tribute to the memory of the late founding father and New Ireland province strong man, Rt. Hon. Sir Julius Chan in the state funeral held at the St. Mary’s Cathedral in downtown Port Moresby yesterday

The Prime Minister praised the life of the Late Sir Julius, who serve with distinction, since he first entered public service in 1968 in the house of Assembly.

Marape stated that the last man from the generation of leaders who through their efforts, shaped the future of a former Australian Territory into the country of Papua New Guinea as it is know today.

Consoling the family of the late Sir Julius, the Prime Minister stated that for them, they can take refuge in the word of God.

He gave thanks to Lady Stella, for her unwavering comment to sir Julius, and for being a pillar to lean in and a support bearer for the late founding father.

He acknowledged Sir Julius’ significant role in shaping Papua New Guinea, calling him one of
the last surviving members of the first post-independence leadership team.

“As Prime Minister, I will personally accompany Sir Julius’ body to its final resting place on
Wednesday.

The Government will honour him while staying true to his final wish,” Prime Minister Marape said.

Celebrant Bishop Otto Separy when speaking of the late founding father, said the late sir Julius had run his race and for a man who had spent over 50 years of his life in the Public space, his time and presence will be remembered and sorely missed by those closest to him.
