BOUGAINVILLE REGIONAL MEMBER CONDEMNS CYBER BULLYING

The Bougainville Regional Member, Peter Tsiamalili, has issued a strong statement condemning recent derogatory social media comments targeting newly crowned Miss Papua New Guinea, Ms. May Torovi Hasola.
Tsiamalili, who is also Ms. Hasola’s uncle, expressed deep concern over the negative remarks aimed at Ms. Hasola and her family. He described the online attacks as “completely unacceptable” and emphasized the need for unity and respect within the community.
“Such behavior is not only hurtful but completely unacceptable, and I unequivocally condemn it,” Tsiamalili stated.
Ms. Hasola’s journey to becoming Miss PNG has been hailed as a source of inspiration, particularly for young women across Bougainville and Papua New Guinea. Her success symbolizes resilience, determination, and empowerment, values that Tsiamalili hopes will inspire future generations.
“She embodies the hopes and dreams of young women, especially those in Bougainville. Her story is a powerful message for girls who are not deterred by the challenges of our past but driven by resilience and courage,” he added.
The Regional Member urged Bougainvilleans to refrain from sharing or engaging in false information and negative comments on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook. He stressed the importance of respecting the dignity and achievements of individuals representing Bougainville on national and international stages.
“It is essential that we take action to stop circulating harmful comments and allow the law to take its course. Let us rise above this situation and remain the proud, intelligent, and humble people we have always been,” he said.
Tsiamalili called for a united front to support Ms. Hasola and to celebrate her accomplishments as a proud representative of Bougainville.
He assured the public that the matter would be addressed through legal channels and that support would be extended to Ms. Hasola.
“I call on all Bougainvilleans to unite in celebrating May’s achievements and to foster a culture of respect and encouragement. Together, we are capable of a better world where every young person is empowered and supported in their achievements,” he concluded.
