CEPA PUSHES FOR TREE PLANTING AND FISH FARMING

BY JOE REMA
THE Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA) is encouraging communities in Southern Highlands Province to take part in tree planting and fish farming programs aimed at improving livelihoods and protecting the environment.
Southern Highlands CEPA Program Coordinator Paulus Mosbi made the call during a meeting held at Walume District in the Imbonggu Electorate on Thursday.
Officers from the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DPI), Commerce and Tourism, Forestry, and public servants attended the meeting to discuss ways of organising environmental and agriculture projects in local communities.
Mr. Mosbi said tree planting and fish farming could create income opportunities for rural people while promoting environmental conservation.
He said government departments and stakeholders must work together to organise labour, identify suitable locations, and determine the costs involved in implementing the projects.
Participants also discussed community participation and the need for proper coordination to ensure the programs are successfully carried out across the district.
The meeting forms part of CEPA’s ongoing awareness and environmental sustainability programs in Southern Highlands Province.
