NIPG ROLLS OUT K500,00 RELIEF SUPPLIES

K500, 000 worth of relief supply were distributed to the New Ireland province by the New Ireland provincial Government.


New Ireland Governor and PEC Chairman Hon. Byron Chan assured the continuation of relief supplies currently underway in affected areas of New Ireland facing the effects of the category four cyclone Maila.


From the K500, 000 allocated by the Department of Defence, both Kavieng and Namatanai districts of New Ireland receive K200, 00 worth of basic food items while K100, 000 to hardware supplies.


Knowingly the turnout of events is unavoidable aback a natural disaster, the Office of Governor Chan has reassured rolling out of relief supplies where needed the most now underway.


Each affected ward in the province has been allocated K3, 200 worth of food items apart from further assistance of canvasses, cooking pots and water rations.


The Governor’s Office is providing fuel to supplement further enhancement and eventual distribution of relief supplies in all identified affected areas in the province.


So far affected wards in the Lavongai LLG of Kavieng district are first to complete receiving of 3 loads of relief assistance today while Kavieng Urban LLG and outer Islands of Tigak in Kavieng face mild to minimal effects of the cyclone disaster.

Sentral LLG relief distribution is underway and Tikana LLG is yet to start the exercise. Wards 1-6 in Namatanai have been supplied relief assistance as well Labur and Rabaen villages in West Coast Namatanai district.


Governor Chan has further committed K1million to address the plight of disaster affected bridges and road works in Namatanai.


While the temporary Kanapit bridge accessibility following its abrupt washing away in Namatanai is funded by the New Ireland Provincial Government giving immediate access to light vehicles.


Governor Chan remains committed to addressing the ongoing plight of disaster affected communities and villages in the New Ireland province as well regrettably shares in the losses suffered rising from this natural disaster.

“New Ireland is not alone but joins the rest of especially coastal Papua New Guinea to have become victims of cyclone Maila and it is our responsibility as a government to step in and help our people when the need arises the most,” Governor Chan remarked.
