REGISTER YOURSELF OR MISS OUT IN 2027 ELECTIONS

PNG Electoral Commission has urged every eligible voter to enrol their name through the nationwide Electoral Roll Update program, which is currently underway.

Acting-Commissioner Margreth Vagi singled out that this year’s Electoral Roll Update exercise is the final before the forthcoming National General Elections in 2027 and those that failed to confirm and register their names in their respective Wards would not be allowed to vote.

She added that her officers will be going out to the Local Level Governments (LLGs) and Wards to enrol and update the Electoral Roll, in preparation for the 2027 Elections.

“Remember, you can not vote in 2027 General Election if you name is not registered on the Electoral Roll,” says Acting Commissioner Vagi.

“This vote enrolment program is to make sure eligible electors are registered and have their correct detail on their ward electoral roll in order to exercise their democratic right to vote.”

Acting-Commissioner Vagi highlighted that the voter enrolment program roll-out is only for the election purposes, and her officers will update the rolls before the national elections.

“The Enrolment agents will register new eligible who are 18-years and above, 17 years of age in 2026 and will turn 18 before the issue of writ in 2027.

“Citizens must reside within their wards for six months or more and must enrol at that particular ward only,” she added.
Acting-Commissioner Vagi said the roll out of the Electoral Roll Update will soon off the ground, starting in May and ends on October.

“You have the right to vote, it is your responsibility to check your name and detail on the electoral roll, in order to exercise your democratic right to vote in 2027 National General Election.

“The full roll out of electoral roll update program will be conducted from May to October 2026,” acting-Commissioner Vagi stated in a statement.

Acting Commissioner Vagi clearly stated that the Voter’s enrolment exercise carried out by Electoral Commission is different from the National Census or National Identification Card (NID) Program roll outs and pleaded for every concerned to citizens to register their names, before missing out to exercise their Rights to vote.

“Eligible voters are hereby advised that PNG Electoral Commission’s voter enrolment is different from the registration exercises conducted by the National Identification Card program (NID) under the office of Civil and Identity Registry, and the National Census program by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
