TURMERIC FARMING TRIAL IN WABAG DISTRICT

Growing of spices was recently introduced in Enga Province where Birip village in the Laiap local level government of Wabag District is now trying out turmeric farming.

Birip Cooperative Society Chairman Mr Dan Nyia said that he is trialing the planting of this spice and has introduced this new cash crop to seven villagers.

He mentioned that 150 kilograms of turmeric rhrizomes or seedlings were brought in from the Eastern Highlands Province and are being distributed to interested farmers in his area.

He encouraged villagers to grow turmeric, and he would assist them to market their produce accordingly.


Birip village is located along the main Highland Highway and has an appropriate population of 6,000 people.
