OPPOSITION QUERIES DISASTER OUTCOME DESPITE RECORD BUDGETS

THE Opposition has questioned whether increased government spending is translating into effective disaster preparedness and service delivery, arguing that record national budgets have not produced corresponding outcomes on the ground.
Opposition Leader James Nomane said the issue was not simply the amount allocated through the national budget but whether funds ultimately reached programmes intended to support communities and government agencies.
He pointed to the National Disaster Department’s appropriation under the 2026 Budget and argued that the larger concern was implementation and execution of approved funding.
Nomane said effective disaster response depended on resources moving efficiently through government systems and reaching operational programmes designed to prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The Opposition leader argued that inefficiencies in public administration continued to affect outcomes across several sectors and suggested that disaster preparedness had become another example of broader implementation challenges.
