KAVIENG LOCALS URGE GOVERNMENT ACTION ON DEAD FISH CRISES

LOCAL villagers along the East Coast of Tikana LLG, in Kavieng district of New Ireland Province are concern over the sight of increased number of dead fish washed along their shores daily.
A local told FM100 News this morning that the problem of fish dying has spread along the East Coast part of Tikana LLG from where it was initially sighted in Kafkaf village.
According to the local, recent sighting of dead fish, dolphins, whales and other edible fish is concerning and they are calling on the relevant stake holders to give proper awareness on the issue.
They are calling on the government to seriously look into the matter as it is affecting the seas and food source for daily living.
People are confused, there is lack of awareness, and the locals still continue with their daily living, fishing for sale and also for consumption.
The issue of dead fish found washed ashore in New Ireland was initially found in Kafkaf village around January of this year, and this has spread at a faster rate to the outer islands and along the East Coast part of Tikana LLG in Kavieng LLG.
