PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION AGAINST THE RE-APPOINTMENT OF AVIRA AS ACTING RTA CEO

CAPTIO: Acting RTA CEO John Avira
THE Public Service Commission (PSC) has strongly called onto the Road Traffic Authority (RTA) Board and Public Service Minister Joe Sungi to make appointment to a new acting Road Traffic Authority Chief Executive Officer as soon as possible, to ensure continuity and holding the integrity of the organisation at the highest accord.
This urgent call was made after noting that the current acting RTA CEO John Avira’s term was further extended to three-months, despite he is currently under investigation and fighting his battle at the National Court for Official Corruption.
PSC Chairman Apeo Sione singled out that Avira was charged on three counts of Official Corruption, misappropriation and abuse of office and that contradicts himself to hold such high position, while investigation is ongoing.
Sione added that it is not the best interest of the RTA or the country to see an extension of Avira’s term and PSC is against the re-appointment which was happened on the 19th of May 2026.
