DARU HOLDS DAWN SERVICE TO HONOUR FALLEN HEROES

RESIDENTS of Daru joined the nation at dawn to commemorate the National Remembrance Day as they gathered early this morning for a dawn service to honour Papua New Guinea’s fallen heroes.

The ceremony, held at the Daru Remembrance Park, was attended by members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force, the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary, provincial and district leaders, church representatives, students, and members of the public.

The service featured the laying of wreaths, prayers, the sounding of the Last Post, a minute of silence, and the singing of the National Anthem in memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation.

Speakers reminded the public of the bravery and sacrifice of Papua New Guinean servicemen and the wartime carriers known as the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels, whose contributions during the Second World War remain an important part of the country’s history.

The annual dawn service continues to serve as a reminder for all Papua New Guineans to honour the legacy of the nation’s fallen heroes and to uphold the values of service, sacrifice, and unity.

While in Madang Province, the people of Madang also turned out in numbers at Kaibobo Light House early this morning from 5:00am to 6:00am to attend the National Remembrance Day Dawn Service.

The service was held to commemorate National Remembrance Day,honouring the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to Papua New Guinea.
