BSP OPENS NEW CARD CENTRES IN LAE & MT HAGEN

BANK South Pacific has opened new Card Centres in Lae and Mt Hagen to help customers switch from Kundu Magnetic Stripe Cards to the safer Kundu Chip Cards ahead of the 31 August 2026 deadline.

The soft opening comes as demand grows for card replacements.

As an additional fraud preventative measure, BSP will also cut daily ATM and EFTPoS limits on magnetic stripe cards from K500 to K250, effective 5 August, before full deactivation at the end of the month.

Group General Manager Retail Ronesh Dayal says the new centres reflect BSP’s commitment to customer convenience and stronger security against fraud.

Mr Dayal said the move to Kundu Chip Cards is primarily about protecting customers and their funds from increasingly sophisticated fraud threats.

“We understand that some customers have experienced longer waiting times at our  branches while upgrading their cards, and we sincerely thank them for their patience and understanding.”

“Card cloning and fraud are global challenges affecting financial institutions worldwide. Magnetic stripe technology is more vulnerable to fraud, while chip-enabled cards offer enhanced security features that significantly reduce the risk of unauthorised transactions.

Meantime, Bank South Pacific is reminding customers to upgrade their Kundu Magnetic Stripe Cards before the 31 August 2026 deadline to avoid service disruptions.

Customers outside Port Moresby, Lae, and Mt Hagen can visit their nearest BSP branch for card replacements. All branches across PNG will also open for half‑day service on Saturdays until 29 August to assist weekend customers.
