STATE OWNED-ENTERPRISE Minister William Duma says the launch of Kumul Cloud Infinity is not just another technology platform but a strategic national asset for Papua New Guinea’s economic growth.

The facility, opened on August 21 by Datec PNG in partnership with Telikom PNG and CloudSigma, delivers the country’s first sovereign cloud and AI data centre.

Minister Duma stressed the platform’s role in modernising the economy, protecting secret information, and expanding opportunities for Papua New Guineans and international partners.

Minister Duma said the Kumul Cloud Infinity is strategic asset for economic growth.
“We are not merely launching another technology platform; we are actually unveiling a strategic national asset,” Duma said.

He highlighted the data centre’s role in a rapidly changing, technology-driven global landscape where governments use AI to drive economic growth.

He noted that the platform will protect secret information, modernize the economy, and expand opportunities for local citizens and international business partners.

Minister Duma said by keeping this data onshore, the data center strengthens the resilience of the local digital economy and establishes a foundation of sovereign trust for the nation’s digital future.

It ensures critical national data is stored and processed securely onshore, strengthening resilience in the local digital economy.

Unlike standard centres, Kumul Cloud Infinity offers advanced AI computing and power resilience with UPS systems, standby generators, and gas‑based power from Geogas PNG.

This milestone places PNG alongside nations such as Indonesia, Canada, and the UAE, which also operate sovereign AI data centres.

Datec Group Chairman Moses Maladina and Telikom Group Chief Executive Officer Amos Tepi echoed the same sentiments during their remarks, thesaying Kumul Cloud Infinity protects national data.

The facility is designed to safeguard sensitive information generated daily by government agencies, businesses, and citizens including financial reports, health information, educational data and commercial information.
