BSP AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS REBUILD GABAGABA AID POST

GABAGABA Aid post will receive a major facelift as it plans to reconstruct the building thanks to BSP’s 50for50 GivimBek Project, the community, government and village partnerships.

What began as a staff-led initiative by BSP employees from Gabagaba Village has gained momentum, rallying strong support from government leaders, senior statesmen, and local community members. Additional financial commitments made during the groundbreaking ceremony brought the total funding for the Aid Post upgrade to K120,000.

The project secured significant backing from the Office of the Minister for National Planning and Member for Rigo, Sir Ano Pala, whose Second Secretary, Mr. Charles Amini, announced a Kina-for-Kina matching grant of K50,000 from the Minister’s office.

Further support came from senior statesman and businessman Mr. Robert Agarobe, who committed K10,000 to the project. Additionally, the Minister for Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs, Hon. Soroi Eoe, and local village leader and BSP staff member Douna Vaname each pledged personal contributions of K5,000 to complete the funding effort.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, BSP Group General Manager for Corporate Affairs and Community, Ms Hari Rabura acknowledged the support and collaboration of BSP staff in initiating such projects for their places of origin.

The 50for50 GivimBek initiative allows staff to leave tangible long-lasting impact projects in their villages and places of origin.

Today, BSP has at least one staff initiated 50for50 GivimBek project in all provinces in Papua New Guinea, with over 30 projects approved so far.

Ms Rabura, added, “for Gabagaba village, the reconstruction of the Gabagaba Aid Post addresses a critical local need, as the facility serves as the primary point of medical care for a growing population. Once completed, the upgraded post will provide healthcare workers with a safer, functional, and working environment while expanding access to essential health services for neighbouring communities.”

“Access to quality healthcare remains one of the most important needs of any community,” said Kila Nouairi, BSP staff officiating the ceremony. “By strengthening this vital piece of infrastructure, we are helping to create better health outcomes and supporting the wellbeing of our families and villages.”

The project has garnered significant financial backing beyond BSP’s initial contribution, securing additional commitments during the groundbreaking ceremony totally up to K120 thousand for the Aid Post upgrade.

Highlighting the collaborative effort, Office of the Minister for National Planning and Member for Rigo, Second Secretary Mr Charles Amini expressed gratitude, noting that community development is most successful when driven by local stakeholders working toward a common purpose and looked forward to the completion of this project.

The reconstruction of the Gabagaba Aid Post, marks a major milestone for the local community and surrounding villages, noting that the Minister’s office was pleased to support this project to improve health and infrastructure.
