GOROKA DDA COMMITS K100,000 FOR JUVENILE REHAB CENTRE

THE Goroka District Development Authority has presented K100,000 towards the construction of a juvenile rehabilitation centre at Bihute Correctional Institution in Goroka.
The funding is part of the DDA’s K200,000 commitment towards the project.
The presentation was made by Goroka DDA CEO Benson Imara to Bihute Correctional Institution Services Commander Superintendent John Gane, in the presence of Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Kale and Provincial Law and Justice Sector Advisor Ben Sapu.
Goroka MP and DDA Chairman Aiye Tambua says the law and justice sector remains a priority, with the DDA investing a significant portion of its funding into the sector.
Superintendent Gane says the new facility will be managed by the Bihute Correctional Institution.
Meanwhile, Chief Superintendent Kale has appealed to the other seven MPs in Eastern Highlands to support correctional services, which caters for prisoners from all districts in the province.
The Juvenile rehabilitation centre is being constructed by Goldfield Construction Limited at a cost of one-point-two million kina, with counter-funding from the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government’s Law and Justice Sector and the Goroka DDA.
