PNG HOLDS 17% BIODIVERSITY IN THE WORLD

WITH Papua New Guinea being the third forest nation in the world after Amazon and Congo, 17% biodiversity in the world is found PNG.

PNG is unique with many different rare species of flora and fauna.

Foreign Minister and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko remarked when speaking at the official launch of the National Orchid and Flower Show at the Parliament precinct on Friday.

Minister Tkatchenko who is also the President of the National Orchid Society for the last 30 years, emphasized that PNG is home to the biggest Pidgeon, the biggest Butterfly and the biggest orchid in the world while also highlighting that the National Orchid and Flower show will exhibit different orchid species and sculptures in the exhibition days commencing today Saturday 12th September, leading up to the 51st Independence Anniversary.

He said the exhibition is to showcase the different orchid species on show from PNG and the South East Asia, who also contributed to the show.

Minister Tkatchenko also commended women from the Highlands region specifically Goroka for participating in the show again this year and further commended the team for their effort in organizing a spectacular 2026 National Orchid and Flower show.
