17th MONI PLUS GOROKA BILUM FESTIVAL UNDERWAY
17th Moni- Plus Goroka Bilum Festival underway:

THE 17th Goroka Bilum Festival is underway in Eastern Highlands Province, bringing together bilum weavers and cultural practitioners to celebrate and promote Papua New Guinea’s rich bilum heritage.
The festival runs from September 15th to 20th under the theme, “Preserving Heritage, Protecting Tradition, Empowering Weavers” which commenced yesterday.
This year’s program focuses on protecting traditional knowledge, documenting traditional weaving techniques and preserving original bilum patterns for future generations.
Moni Plus is the naming rights sponsor for the 2026 festival, while Pacific Trade Invest Australia is the founding partner.
The National Cultural Commission and the J-K McCarthy Museum are also partners in the festival.
Organisers say the event provides an opportunity to celebrate bilum as an important part of Papua New Guinea’s cultural identity, while also supporting economic opportunities for local weavers.
